Why It Exists
We can’t save anyone — but we can build something to try.
NöroKalkan is an app a person struggling with a digital-gambling urge can open at their own initiative. Not a promise of treatment or rescue — a modest suggestion: "this might help you, give it a try." Traditional solutions lean only on “day counting” or raw willpower; we want a person to have something within reach in the minutes when an urge turns into action.
Addiction is engineered; standing against it takes a few tools.
Behind digital gambling platforms sits a billion-dollar system built with behavioural psychology, neuro-marketing and personalised algorithms. Facing it with willpower alone is an unequal fight. NöroKalkan doesn’t invent a miracle method; it tries to assemble a few tools that can help, layer by layer. The first layer is in build today; the later ones come only if we can pull them off — no promises, we’re trying.
"We can’t hand anyone a forced formula for recovery. What we can do is bring scattered tools together and build something worth trying."FOUNDER’S NOTE
Three layers, in order.
Awareness and Friction in the Moment
The app in build today. The moment you feel the urge it opens in one tap; it measures the intensity, puts a few minutes of steps in between — waiting, seeing the pattern your mind builds, noticing sentences like "I’ll just look" — then measures the urge again. All data stays only on the person’s device.
Financial Friction — If We Can
Delays and limits a person sets up themselves through bank-side mechanisms: making it harder to spend the money in a moment of urge. It doesn’t exist yet; it comes if we can manage it technically and institutionally.
Access Blocking — If We Can
At the VPN or DNS level, a block the person switches on themselves to make gambling sites and apps harder to reach. The most uncertain layer; only if we can pull it off.
NöroKalkan is an independent project, funded by two books.
NöroKalkan is an independent project — not tied to an investor, a gambling company or a government body. It runs on a small core and volunteer contributions; it can grow as more people contribute, but this is the scale today.
The only source of income is the sale of two short novels published under the name Arda Giray Işık. No venture capital, no money from the gambling industry. The app is free and will stay free; even if a revenue model is built later, the urge-moment flow and reaching a helpline are free under all circumstances.
The app is in build: the urge-moment flow is testable, the bank-friction and access-blocking layers do not exist yet — the site does not hide this. NöroKalkan is not a treatment, a diagnosis or a clinician network.

The app is being built
The first layer — the urge-moment flow — is ready to try. You can open the preview below; everything runs only on your own device. Feedback and volunteer contributions matter at every stage.
